Are pubs or nightclubs allowed cctv cameras in toilets or toilet cubicles?

What we found is that it is not illegal to place CCTV cameras even in toilet cubicles – but the operator must let the people know they are being filmed or under surveillance, usually through the use of signs.

It is more appropriate to only view recorded images in an area of sensitivity after an incident has occurred.

CCTV cameras are used extensively in England and Wales and where used appropriately contribute to public safety and security and in protecting both people and property.

If you feel that your rights have been violated then you may make a complaint to the manager of the organisation or the Surveillance Camera Commissioner.
