Spencer Place in Chapeltown was the main red-light zone in Leeds. Other disreputable areas include Water Lane in Holbeck and the areas surrounding the City of Mabgate public house in Mabgate, taking in Roseville Road, Telephone Street and Mushroom Street.

There are big cities around the world which have acquired an international reputation as red-light districts. Some red-light districts have acquired a touristic attraction and can be perceived as places of artistic and historic interest.
In the news, the international television company God TV has announced plans to set up headquarters for the United Kingdom in a red light district in Plymouth. The new office would rest "next door to a LAP DANCING club."
