The King's Speech (2010) received 12 Oscar nominations; it won Best Achievement in Directing for Tom Hooper, Best Motion Picture of the Year, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Colin Firth, and Best Writing, Original Screenplay for David Seidler. Director Hooper won his first ever Oscar nomination; he had mostly directed television with only two other films, Red Dust (2004) and The Damned United (2009). Writer Seidler was the oldest to win Original Screenplay at age 73.
