There is no evidence that she was a prostitute at a very young age. Her first employment, at age 14, was packing at a factory and singing at pubs and clubs on evenings and weekends. Bassey is well known for singing the theme songs to 3 James Bond films: Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, and Moonraker.
