What does the P mean that comes up in the corner of the screen at the intro of coronation street?
The large ‘P’ that comes on the screen at the start of ‘Coronation Street’ stands for product placement. TV programmes featuring products which were paid to appear carry a warning at the start and end. The large, bold P sign will flash up to remind viewers that characters will be eating, drinking or wearing prominently branded goods. Additionally, there may also be references to products by name. The new rule took effect 28 February 2011 (the BBC is exempt).
