Piri piri is the Portuguese name for the African Birdseye chile pepper. Piri piri plants grow to a height of 45-120 centimetres with leaves that are 4-7 cm long. The Scoville heat rating of the pepper is 50,000 to 175,000; this is hotter than a Jalapeno, Tabasco sauce, Serrano, Chipotle, or Cayenne pepper.
