What is the american name for coriander?

In American cooking, the seeds are called coriander and the leaves are called cilantro. It is believed that coriander is named after the Greek word for bedbug, "koris", for having a similar odour. The taste of cilantro has a citrus overtone and some believe an unpleasant soapy taste or smell. Cilantro is used in chutneys, salads, salsas, guacamole, and the Indian dish dal.
