The man in the cowboy hat always watching Wimbledon from the players' box is David Spearing. The man that occupies one of the greatest seats in sports is a "retired" structural engineer in his mid 70s.
Spearing is an Honorary Steward whose job is to sit with the players' coaches and family on Centre Court and to assist the public. He's been at it since 1974.
Mr. Spearing spends most of the year in Abu Dhabi, where he has lived for more than 40 years. He runs a structural engineering consultancy which bears his name. 2014 Championships marks his 17th year in the role as Honorary Steward.
