Why are swansea city football fans known as jacks. Or jack army?

One explanation for why Swansea City and its supporters are called 'jacks' dates from the 17th century, when sailors from Swansea were well respected, and any 'Swansea Jack', or Jack Tar, was allowed to join the crew of the ship based solely on that town's reputation.

Another explanation is that it comes from a famous black retriever called Swansea Jack who, during the 1930s, rescued 27 people from drowning in the River Tawe and Swansea Docks.

Swansea are currently enjoying a successful period in their history. Promoted to the Premier League two seasons ago, they finished a respectable 11th last season and are currently lying 9th in the table.
