Wot is th lowest ever score on univeristy challenge?

Not much is known about the lowest scores from the Bamber Gascoigne series, except that the lowest score ever was amassed in 1971-72, when a Sussex team, fresh from two series wins, managed only 10 points.

It is also claimed that in 1977 the Brunel team were the only team to still be on zero points at the half-time interval.

The following are the lowest scores since the show returned in 1994:

1) Exeter
2) Lincoln, Oxford
3) St John's, Oxford
4) New Hall, Cambridge
5) Bradford
6) Jesus, Oxford
7) Brasenose, Oxford
8) Birkbeck, London
9) Oxford Brookes
10) Keele

University Challenge first began in 1962 when Granada Television took the bold step of introducing an intellectual quiz show which was rather less glitzy than the traditional game show formats that had gone before.

After its initial unexpected popularity, the programme was cut in 1987 due to low viewing figures, but was resurrected again by the BBC in 1994 with Jeremy Paxman installed as its new presenter.
